Veggie Christmas Market Germany

Traditional German Christmas are a wonderful part of the landscape in December. It’s a great place to meet friends, coworkers and family for a hot mug of Glühwein and possibly to get some Christmas shopping done. Although the food fare at these markets can be heavy on the Bratwurst, more plant-based options are available every year!

Just five short years ago, in 2010, the vegan Christmas Market in Hannover was still considered the only one in Germany. We have made it to 2015 though, the veggie lifestyle has gone mainstream and other cities are following suit. There are special vegan Christmas markets in Berlin, Dresden, Dusseldorf, Hamburg, Hanover, Koblenz and Leipzig with many other markets featuring vegan and vegetarian stands and delicacies.

These markets offer plant-based versions of all the traditional treats such as waffles, gingerbread, hot mulled wine or hot chocolate. Besides these food items, the markets also offer inspiration for a wide range of practical vegan gift ideas such as natural cosmetics or wines that have not been clarified with gelatine, and fairly traded organic clothing.

So head to one of these markets with your friends, get yourself a hot beverage of your choice, and revel in some Christmas spirit! Here for your Christmas market exploration pleasure is a list of fully veggie Christmas markets followed by a list of other markets that have vegan and vegetarian stands.
